Forthcoming! An album of Ukrainian carols and hymns.

Following our acclaimed recording of Bortniansky’s choral concertos on the Naxos label, Ensemble Cherubim came together in June 2024 for an exciting new project. This recording will capture the intimacy of small ensemble pieces traditionally sung in Ukrainian homes and church choir lofts during the Christmas season. It will include the renowned “Shchedryk” (known globally as “Carol of the Bells”) by Mykola Leontovych, along with a dozen lesser-known, yet equally captivating miniatures spanning music from the 1900s to a modern Ukrainian variation on “Silent Night” that resonates with today’s world.

We are currently seeking donations to allow us to complete the recording currently in post-production. This project complements Carols of Birds, Bells, and Sacred Hymns from Ukraine: An Anthology and Cultural Companion, a new book by our director, Marika Kuzma, published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing in 2024.
